Pinterest Launches Localised Service For French Pinners

image
A new version of
Pinterest has been launched, one which is dedicated to French users, with a focus on French content and categories to provide a more familiar experience. The service is the first dedicated non-English language version of Pinterest.

French has been available as a language setting on Pinterest since last year, but as Pinterest say in the announcement post on the Pinterest blog, “language is just one important piece of culture. That’s why we’re launching a new localized version of Pinterest, created especially for people in France.”
French pinners will see more local content in Search and category feeds, as well as links to more French domains and pins with descriptions in French. We hope today’s updates will help French pinners discover more relevant pins, and faster than ever before.
To create the new localised service, Pinterest observed the activity of native-speaking French pinners. Over the next 30 days, 300 top French bloggers will share their boards and pins, as well as telling their stories about Pinterest and what the site means to them. The campaign, which Pinterest are running to celebrate French culture, is called Pin It Forward France, or Epingler c’est partager.

To kick off the campaign, two French pinners, lifestyle blogger Sara and DIY blogger Dorian Nieto, both of inspiration blog Petit Poulou, have been invited to comment on the new French-focused service on the Pinterest blog. Sara enthused about Pinterest’s ability to break through language barriers:

Sharing boards and exchanging new ideas has provided me with a visual and stunning way to create a link with others which overcomes the barrier of language.
While Neto talked about his passion for discovery on the site:
I’ve become a pinner and every day I unearth new images that teach me things about the folks who captured them, and inspire me to discover more about those people. Above all, I share. For me, Pinterest is first and foremost a place for passionate people to share what they love.
Although there is no mention of any intention to create more localised services on the Pinterest blog, it is extremely likely that there are ideas for some in the pipeline.

Would you like a localised service of Pinterest in your country? What country should Pinterest create a localised service for next?
