Every Friday, the staff here at Social Media Frontiers chose the best marketing campaigns from the past week. The innovation, success and simplicity of each promotion is taken into account. This week there were five social media promotions that stood out from the crowd.

Red BullHarlem Shake (Skydive Edition)



Another standout Harlem Shake video has been taking YouTube by storm: Red Bull’s effort, which sees a group of daredevils dancing in mid-air, already has over 4 million views online.
Grey PouponThe Lost Footage



Luxury mustard brand, Grey Poupon, released a now famous advertisement in the 1980s featuring two gentlemen pulling up next to one another in Rolls-Royces and one offering the other a jar of Grey Poupon. The advert is so iconic that it has even been parodied by hit comedy series Family Guy.

Grey Poupon has now released a new advert showing what occurred after the mustard exchange, when the second gentlemen did not return the mustard to the first.

In the commercial, a teaser of which was aired during the Oscars, the two mustard-fanciers engage in a race and a sword fight with golf clubs.

The full advert, which now has over a million views on YouTube, features a number of “haute spots”: special spots that viewers can click on to be in the chance of winning prizes featured in the advert, such as champagne and caviar.

HeinekenThe Candidate



In this viral video unsuspecting job candidates applying for a position at Heineken are subjected to a one-of-a-kind interview.

Each candidate has to react to extreme situations: the interviewer insists on holding hands then collapses later in the interview, a fire alarm goes off halfway through the interview and a stranger threatens to jump from the roof of the building.

The winning applicant, as voted by the Heineken Marketing community and their Facebook fans online, was given the honour of travelling to Juventus’ stadium for a cup tie against Chelsea, where they worked as one of the banner bearers.

The video has over 2 million views on YouTube.

SodaStream – New Recipes

SodaStream rewarded their Facebook fans this week by giving them exclusive first taste access to a new range of flavours.

The Facebook fans have also been given a 30% discount on the new range of flavours, which includes Highland Fizz and Dr Pete.

The 8 flavours was made available to SodaStream’s Facebook fans 2 days before general release.

The Last Exorcism Part IIBeauty Shop Scare



To promote the latest exorcism-themed horror movie to hit cinemas in the United States, the film’s promoters have created a clever viral video which has already been viewed over a million times on YouTube.

In the video, a succession of girls in a hairdressing salon are startled by a ghostly apparition appearing in their mirror.

In reality a young contortionist, made-up to look ghoulish, is hiding behind the mirror, with a light coming on at opportune moments to illuminate her.

Each victim reacts to the prank differently, with some laughing manically and others swearing vociferously.

All the reactions, however, are amusing to the YouTube audience.
