How Twitter Helped Cheryl Make Loyal Fan Kimbo's Dream Come True One Last Time

ibtimes.co.uk
This week was a difficult one for the friends of Kimberley Szostak as they were deeply bereaved after finding out that she had passed away. I, in fact, woke up to a post on one of my close friends Facebook's announcing this devastating news.

Within hours posts, comments, and photos were all shared along with wonderful, heart-felt comments about the time that had been shared with Kim, or Kimbo for those who knew her well. More and more of her friends and family took the time to say a few words. My Facebook timeline was flooded with sad goodbyes, and before long her page was a place to pay their respects. Being a girl with many friends, the posts received likes and comments by the hundred until one surprised us all. Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, Kimberley's all time biggest idol, posted on her instagram about her passing.

To start with it seemed impossible, why would one celebrity post about this one fan? It turns out that Kimberley had been a very loyal fan for many years, and Cheryl knew this. It is obvious then that when the news had eventually reached her, the singer had taken the first chance she got to honour her. She also used Twitter to tell the world how emotional she was to hear of this.

It only took a few hours once again for the post to be shared and retweeted hundreds of times. She even contacted one of my own close friends, sending him her condolences. What a beautiful way to send her off. I am sure that her family and friends will never forget Cheryl's gesture of goodwill. I may not have called her a close friend myself but she was and will remain a beautiful soul and will be sorely missed by many. Once again we have witnessed how fast information can travel with access to social media, making one young girl's dream come true, one last time.

For those who would like to pay their respects, a space at the University of Bedfordshire, Polhill Avenue has been cleared ready to receive flowers and notes for Kimberley. Feel free to visit Seedbeds for this and any of their staff for guidance. Thursday 1st October at 12.30 there will be a short remembrance ceremony there too.
