#ProjectMachester - LinkedIn Bring Their Expertise to UK Streets

metronet-uk.com
LinkedIn have clearly and resolutely established themselves as the foremost platform for job-hunting and professional networking. With over 364 million members across the planet and an interface which helps employers and employees alike connect with each other, as well as aiding things like social media management, it's one of the most important, valuable social media platforms going. If you business doesn't have a LinkedIn, it has officially fallen behind the times.

The LinkedIn revolution isn't just reserved for online activity though, the minds behind the site are taking steps to get out into a real world and take an active role there, too. It's been going on in the States for a while now but now things are starting to happen in Europe and the first stop? Manchester.

In partnership with the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (or GMCA), LinkedIn are sending officials to run networking events in key locations all across the Northern metropolis, from Picadilly Gardens to the MediaCityUK site in Salford from the 16th to 26th of June. It's been dubbed #ProjectManchester.

During the events, the reps will help people create LinkedIn profiles or improve their existing ones and based on the spread of different skills and experience they log, create a wider database on the employee/employer outlook in Manchester. The GMCA will them use that information to retrofit the education and training priorities region by region, depending on what's available and what's needed to help more people secure the jobs they need.

It's a brilliant scheme which will enable LinkedIn to create a comprehensive economic graph of Greater Manchester which will make monitoring of the job outlook across the city that much easier. It comes on the heels of a similar project conducted in New York City earlier this year. The information gathered allowed LinkedIn to help the Tech Talent Pipeline, a $10 million fund set up by the city, to effectively construct training schemes that met the job demand in the city. This kind of active input into urban job markets is exactly the kind of thing that makes LinkedIn one of the most valuable services on the web.
