Pinterest You Are Drunk – All the Most Awful Business Ideas in One Convenient Archive

pinterestyouaredrunk.com

Pinterest is doing really well for itself at the moment. Its sign-up rate is climbing by the day, businesses are increasingly citing it as one of their most active social media platforms (us included) and the site’s overall monetary value is skyrocketing. It makes sense, the ability to compile all the material relevant to a particular topic in one simple, elegant interface (or board) is a near-perfect way to present promotional information for a product, event or whatever else you might be plugging.

You can’t pan for gold without getting some mud though and you can’t have a popular social media platform that’s devoid of a few morons. The rather unique, and frankly joyous thing about Pinterest though is that rather than a steady but reliable stream of curmudgeonly hate criminals (Twitter), a vibrant community of people who photograph their butts more than most people photograph anything (Instagram) or a rabble of attention starved morons who would ram masonry nails through their tongues for a few-hundred likes (Facebook), you get something much more entertaining: terrible inventions.

Yes indeed, Pinterest is a hotbed for won’t-be start-ups publicising their adorably awful ideas to whoever might be paying attention and now Tumblr has provided us with a handy catalogue of all the best (worst) ones. Whether it’s a ring that doubles as a miniature plate for hors d’oeuvres, sandals constructed from the eviscerated remains of old denim jeans or twine wrapped pears made from recycled light bulbs (I didn’t embellish that one, that’s exactly how they’re described), it’s there.

It’s a bit like scrolling through a slide show of all the concepts which were entered for Dragon’s Den but never even made it past quality control. Even below that you have the kind of ‘life-hacks’ and ‘recycled art’ that only could have been conceived by a mind so starved of daylight and social interaction that the mere act of meeting a stranger would send it into complete meltdown. What fun.
