Dove says #ChooseBeautiful

#ChooseBeautiful reveals 96% of women consider themselves average looking!

Dove's new social media campaign, #ChooseBeautiful, is a social experiment that is all about inspiring women to describe and see themselves as beautiful.

Dove made a video for their experiment which took place in San Francisco, Shanghai, Delhi, London and Sao Paulo. The premise was simple; a building was given two doorways. One door was labelled ‘Beautiful’ and the other was marked as ‘Average.’ When women approached the building, they would have to pick which door to go through.

I know, that if it had been me, I wouldn’t have even noticed the signs. But let’s take my general obliviousness out of the picture for now and think about what these doors represent.

It would be confrontational for any woman to have to pick in an instant whether they think they’re average or beautiful. Particularly when they’re totally unaware of any repercussions that might happen once they go through the door. Many women approached the building alone, so lacked the support and thus the majority of women picked the “average” side.

Some did hesitate, some didn’t think twice – “beautiful is out of my reach,” says one woman.
Most of the women interviewed regretted their choice when they went through the “average” door, saying they will question themselves for weeks and if they could do it again, they would chose “beautiful” instead.

What is sad to watch is how embarrassed the faces of the women who went through the “average” door are in comparison to the laughing and smiling faces of the women who enter through the “beautiful” door.

The women that went through beautiful door look liberated, as if going through that door has confirmed something they should have known all along.

This campaign has been great, because if anything it just proves that life is about choice ladies. The things that make us happy and sad can be because of our own choices. So why ever choose the lesser option?

The very average door had the ability to make people feel beautiful. This just proves, beauty all starts with just saying it, the confidence and belief will undoubtedly follow.

The only thing I was left wondering was what happened to all the men who went through those doors that day?  I have a feeling that would be a very different video.
