When Two Button Presses Is Too Much
A social media manager has just launched ‘The HashKey’. It’s
an attatchment for Mac keyboards. Which consists of a single button. The
Hashtag.
Yes. This really exists. I am 100% serious. You can check
out its Kickstarter here.
The HashKey has come into existence because if you’re a Mac
user like I am, you’re more than likely aware of how your keyboard doesn’t
actually have a hashtag anywhere on it. Take a look now. See, it’s not
there. But don’t fret – You can still
type out hashtags. Just press Option and 3. #. There, I just did it. Not that
difficult.

But according to Ben Gomori - the social media manager who
started the Kickstarter - this task is a bit too demanding for all of us working
in the social media field.
Gomori is certainly passionate about his little button, and
announced: ‘HashKey is a unique one-key keyboard dedicated solely to the
awesome hashtag. No more wondering how to do a hashtag on your computer or
having to press two keys to make it happen! We want to save social media nerds
around the world valuable seconds and celebrate the mighty hashtag’s contribution
to digital communication!’
Gomori and his girlfriend, who both work in social media,
commented that the two of them were tearing their hair out over everyone who
owns a Mac panicking and calling them up desperate to know where the hashtag
button was. If only there was a nice simple way to figure
this out.
We have such a bountiful source of information in Google –
I’ll never quite understand why people still don’t try to utilise it as much as
they should. Its dead easy folks, I promise.
The HashKey plugs straight into the USB port of your Apple
desktop or laptop and they've lovingly adorned it with the brushed metallic
look that we all can’t seem to stop throwing money at. I’m going to build my
own PC one day, Apple. Mark my words, I will break free.

The project has already amassed $1,000 of its $15,000 target
and so far has been gaining about $200 a day since it started earlier this
week. Well, I guess there is a huge demand for this after all. I’m not sure if
I can blame the youth of today for this.
Chris Messina, the Twitter engineer who invented the hashtag, commented “This is… #awesome! I love it!” I’d love it to if I had a
button for something I created. Just need to make something first.
Well, there we go. I’m not sure if the world has gone mad or
if I’m just being left in the dust.
I’m going to pretend it’s the first one for now.
