Twitter for Android Adds Dedicated Periscope Button

The Verge
Periscope is one of Twitter's better off services right now and it's one that's probably going to be going strong for a while yet. Twitter recently made is possible to view Periscope streams from Twitter and now they're making it possible to actually start filming a stream straight from Twitter on your Android phone.

If you've updated Twitter recently then when you open the media tab, you might see a new live button. When you tap the button it'll open your camera to stream through the app. If you don't have Periscope installed on your phone then it will take you to Google Play first to install it. If you do have Periscope on your phone, then you can start streaming straight away. It's practical and it means that if you want to stream something to your Twitter followers, it'll be a lot easier.

This new link might seem like Twitter is eating up one of their services that works well separately, but it seems like Twitter is just doing so to keep one of their promises. This will mean that Twitter users will see more live content on their timeline which in turn might encourage more users to start using and streaming on Periscope.

At the moment this feature is only available on a few Android devices, but it will be available to all Android users and then iOS users eventually. The fact they decided to test it on Android first can be seen as a positive thing though as most companies would just go straight to iOS unless it was already available on there. A lot of the time Android users are treated like a second thought and it feels great to know that a company as big as Twitter have thought about these users first. Twitter are trying to keep existing users and this does feel like a good way to do so.

This integration is bringing Twitter even closer to being like Facebook. I'm not sure if that's a good idea or not as Twitter really needs to stand up on its own. However, the furthered integration of live stream onto Twitter can only be seen as a positive thing. If you are an Android user and you don't see the live button yet, then don't worry, it'll be available to you in time.
