ViralWoot Review - Unpacking Pinterest for Marketing

Pinterest is fast becoming one the flagship platforms for marketing and branded content. The pinboard format enables users to display their wares or their business in an interactive, almost inherently engaging way; it's a hotbed of creativity. Unlike Twitter or Facebook, however, it's not so easy to access its analytic data, or figure out exactly how to manage business pages on it, which is where the need for external tools comes into play. Thus, enter ViralWoot.

Developed by SaasLabs, it works like a kind of internal Pinterest network for business users. It has its own currency - seeds - and you gain them by following other people's accounts and repinning their pins. With that done, you make the seeds you've earned available to others in exchange for the same thing, with me so far? Basically, the more time you spend following accounts, the more valuable you can make your own, so the whole system is built around encouraging a wider network of communication. The whole thing has a very strong gamification feel to it.

Once you've built up a solid network around you, it primarily becomes a way to make sure that the stuff you pin reaches the people you want it to first, but more than that, it's almost like Hootsuite purpose-built for Pinterest. You can schedule posts, track your 'Pinfluence', which is basically an analytics tool, and keep an eye on your native stats as well.

Your VirtalWoot account isn't just an offshoot of your Pinterest account, either, you can link multiple accounts to it and manage them all under the same name. This, to my mind, is one of the more useful aspects of ViralWoot, since you can display all your different businesses to your followers simultaneously, and they can do the same for you. If you've got a few different Pinterest accounts serving different purposes, this is ideal, since you can cross reference how well everything is doing.

The Pinfluence score is also useful, since it covers a pretty broad, interesting range of different parameters. There are the standard pin and repin stats that you might expect, but you can also see the best days and times to pin, how well you're doing in terms of activity rate, whether or not you're in danger of getting marked as a spam account and most interestingly, the best performing dominant colours for your pins.

Taken in isolation, none of these parameters would have been massively impressive, but together, they create a tool which can allow you to completely restructure your approach to Pinterest. The platform is far too young to have any true veterans yet, and there's no one way to approach it for business, but having something like ViralWoot in your belt will give you an almost immediate leg up. Even after a few days of use, I was seeing an uptick in traffic.
