Facebook's Custom Profile Frames are Open and Here to Stay

The Drum
Two weeks ago we talked about the custom frames Facebook had introduced to support marriage equality in Australia and how they were testing the frames with other charities. Now that feature has been expanded upon and is open to all.

Most of these new frames are unsurprisingly sports related. Sports are something all over the world that people like to proudly show their support for and with Facebook's Sports Stadium they clearly want people to feel they can talk about it on their site. Interestingly enough though, this new feature is already doing some good using the sports frames.

Pakistan and India have a long, complex history, and cricket rivalry is a very significant part of that. Something good can come out of this though, as in the past both India and Pakistan have agreed to a sort of cricket diplomacy which meant heads of state could visit each other's country to watch a cricket match and just a general improvement with the way the countries treat each other when it comes to facing each other in a match.

The newest opportunity for this has been the Pakistani and Indian cricket team frames on Facebook. Pakistani people have been placing frames on their profile photos to show support for India and vice versa. They're then posting these photos with the tag #ProfilesForPeace. In the past such a show of support wouldn't have been possible, and it's thanks to both Facebook and cricket that we get to witness such support and positivity. Even Mark Zuckerberg announced how amazing this was as he informed users of the frames now being available around the world.

Something pretty interesting is happening in India and Pakistan on Facebook right now. Last week marked the beginning...

Of course, sports teams aren't the only frames you can use. There is a causes section that still has the Australian marriage equality frame, as well as frames to show your support for the Make a Wish Foundation, the WWF and the Girl Scouts. Finally, there is also a films section that at the moment only has two Star Wars frames from back when they started promoting Star Wars: The Force Awakens at the end of last year. This section will probably expand as more and more big films hit this year.

The frames are a neat way to show your support or love for something and they can be attached to your profile picture for an hour, a day, a week or forever. This means that you don't have to worry about changing the frame, unless you change your mind or you set your picture to never change back as you wanted it on there for more than a week but did plan on changing it back.

If your profile picture needs a little oomph to make it more you then you can check out the frames by going here.
