Twitter Images are Enlarged for a Better Experience but Everything Could be Out of Order

techcrunch
Twitter have been making a few changes. Some good, some less so. You can now see full images on twitter even without having to click on them. Whereas before you only could see an image partially, now you can peacefully scroll down your Twitter feed and view everything there and then. It has been altered to give the platform more of a focus on media rather than just text. On the other hand, you might be seeing the posts in a very peculiar order.

This is just one more addition to a better experience on Twitter, alongside the autoplaying of videos. Pictures will now appear in full size instead of being cropped. You can now see them as you took them in the first place, and when you post more than one, the format will be different. You get to choose a lead image, and that one will appear bigger than the others. It resembles Facebook's album layout.

The aim is to make Twitter more visually appealing by using media. And when you can see an image in its full, you can enjoy scrolling down your Timeline. Or at least some can. Others might not appreciate the changes so much as it will mean taking more time to scroll through everything. The images will take up more screen space so you will not be able to take in as much in one go.

Having said all of that, Twitter have also been experimenting on a slightly different aspect of their platform. The order of the posts. You will now see that posts appear in a random order, rather than chronological. Most users are very unhappy with the changes. They are hoping to show the best content for users but instead it seems very confusing.

So it looks like Twitter have done something good and bad at the same time. And people might not even notice now that the images have been enlarged because they are too busy worrying about the order of the posts. CEO of Twitter Jack Dorsey has said 'you will continue to see us question our reverse chronological timeline, [...] we continue to show a questioning of our fundamentals in order to make the product easier and more accessible to more people'. Hopefully this means that they really are only testing this random order, and if not, it looks like people are just going to have to get used to it. But in the meantime, you have to look at the bigger picture...
