#Movember #Marketing 2015

Marketing Week

The hairiest month of the year is almost here. Love them or hate them, without fail November sees a barrage of fuzzy upper lips as men everywhere unite in their moustache growing abilities. It's all for a good cause, of course - raising funds for men's health issues such as prostate and testicular cancer.

The charity has been hugely popular - having raised £346m since 2003 with over 4m 'Mo Bros and Mo Sistas' - so to keep the momentum going the organisation has stepped up its online presence.

The charity has released a new campaign that includes three videos proving that you're a better you
with a moustache. The executive creative director at LA agency Sid Lee said: “We went back in history and realized that the greatest achievements of mankind have been achieved by men with Mo’s. So, with one, you’re more likely to do something extraordinary.”

Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men worldwide. The number of cases diagnosed is estimated to double to 1.3m by 2030, Movember believes, and the number of testicular cancer sufferers is around 8,000 a year in the US alone. These are two of the most important causes to the the Mo Bro's along with men's mental health. Their statistics explain that 510,000 men die from suicide globally each year.

Along with the new Youtube videos, Movember have recruited creative agency MATTA to implement digital advertising this year. This includes a new campaign called MOVE that aims to get men more physically active during the month and to continue it hereafter. The charity says regular exercise can help reduce the risk of heart disease, diabetes and cancer up to 50%, which means that spurring activity is a perfect way to better men's health.

The run up to Movember has already seen Twitter inundated with related tweets, with celebrities and other charities endorsing the moustache movement.

Finally, in association with Experian Marketing Services Movember is releasing a mobile messaging service, new to 2015, in order to make raising funds easier and to also keep participants connected within the Mo community, with event information and fundraising ideas made available.

So if you fancy (and are genetically able) to get involved, why not grow your own fro this autumn. After all, its a bit of fun and it does a lot of good things for a lot of people. If you would like to learn more about the cause and even sign up yourself, visit Movember's website.
