Twitter Vs Instagram

The Tweet or the Filter – There Can Only Be One

wired.com

Twitter has sent out blanket messages recently trying to deter its users from sharing Instagram links in their tweets.

Twitter has had enough of Instagram posts popping up too much in people’s Twitter feeds and are now taking steps to shut this practise down.
Beginning on Thursday last week, Twitter has sent out prompt messages to high profile Tweeters who often use their Twitter to promote Instagram pictures. In the messages, Twitter urges the users to share pictures directly through Twitter, ignoring Instagram so that users can make sure that ‘fans always see them.’

Now that Instagram is owned by Facebook, it appears that Twitter and Instagram just can’t get along anymore. Shame really, integration between the two would be so much easier than trying to one up each other.

You may remember that Twitter introduced some photo editing software, similar to Instagram’s. This was about the same time that Instagram removed the ability to share its images in Tweets. As the two have battled it out, Instagram have slowly been rising in numbers and now tops Twitter for monthly users.

Most Twitter users who have been sent the prompt have simply just been Tweeting links to the Instagram pictures rather than posting screen grabs so it doesn't seem like Twitter’s prompt has had much effect.

With Snapchat recently revealing its new Discover feature, it appears that social networks are all striving to eventually offer their users the complete multimedia package.
So it appears that the arms race is well and truly in motion. Companies will either be racing for the finish or just trying to trip each other up.

I’d put some money on Snapchat. I think that they've got something special there.

Let’s wait and see for now though.
