As the mornings get colder and the Christmas trees go up we race ever closer to the beginning of a New Year. In traditional fashion, it’s about time we took a look back over 2014’s most viral videos.

Now, bear in mind that this will have a bit of opinion in so don’t take it as complete fact.

If you disagree or have any ideas that haven’t been mentioned let me know – I might just do a follow up for you. Also, these aren't in an particular order – It’s so hard to choose winners.

So without further ado, let’s take a trip through the videos of this year.

10. ‘Cassetteboy - Cameron's Conference Rap

Now don’t take offense, this is all in humour!

Just a few months ago, Youtuber Cassetteboy posted a ‘music video’ where he’d spliced loads of clips of David Cameron’s different conferences to the tune of Eminem’s ‘Lose Yourself’.

The video quickly went viral and to be fair, it is quite masterfully done. (And bloody funny)

9.‘ALS Ice Bucket Challenge’

Just when you thought it was gone for good here it is again clogging up all of the end of year articles.

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge was huge and it was everywhere. If you’re on social media and didn't hear of it then you're lying. The concept behind it was to raise awareness for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (a form of motor neuron disease) and before long it was being done by absolutely everybody including a long list of celebrities.

8. ‘Mutant Giant Spider Dog’

I love dogs. But I hate spiders. So I’m really conflicted about this horrible creature. Just kidding, it’s a dog in a costume terrorising unsuspecting people. How fast would you run from this beasty?

7.‘Hero Cat Saves Boy From Dog’

I’m a dog person through and through, but as with any species, there are some bad eggs. This video will make you realise that not all cats are disinterested in everything. Some of them really do care. They’re just too cool to ever show it.

6.‘Winner Stays On’

In a year where we had the World Cup, it’s only natural that a promotional video for it would make it viral. Winner Stays On was definitely the most popular. But for now let’s just try to forget about this world cup. The wounds are still fresh.

5.‘Puppy Love’

Alright, I did a cat one too so this isn't favoritism. Budweiser’s Superbowl advert will melt your heart. The cute fat little puppy, the cheesy passenger song and companionship. What more do you want? Go on, watch it. Feel yourself well up and then spend the rest of your day looking at other dog videos.

 

4.‘Tiny Hamsters Eating Tiny Burritos’

Last cute one, promise. Here we have HelloDenzien showing off miniature culinary skills with perfectly wrapped tiny burritos all at the mercy of a very stern hamster food critic. Did he enjoy it? Find out.

3.‘FIRST KISS’

In this video, 20 strangers were asked to kiss by Wren Studio. The results, are sweet, warming and all in all, quite beautiful. You’ll watch people go from feeling incredibly uncomfortable to completely unwound and then to a much more relaxed state.

I’m not really an arty type, so I’m not sure of the significance of the piece, but regardless, it is a beautiful short video and worth a watch.

2. ‘Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis: President Barack Obama’

You've probably heard of Zach Galifianakis’ chat show where he and a guest tear each other apart.

When Obama appeared on the programme it went viral fast and it was hilarious. Does everything Obama touch go viral? Take a look, and see how Obama responds to when asked about what they should do in terms to ‘North Ikea’.

1.‘Arnold Works at Gold’s’

He’s Howard Kliener. He’s here to help you. Well, not really, it’s Arnold Schwarzenegger (of course he was going to make it in my list) in disguise. In an effort to bring awareness to the After School All Stars, Arnold went incognito at his old gym to tell people to take more water reps.

Honourable mention for ‘Will It Crush’ where Arnold raised money for the programme.

And remember, when it burns, it grows.

So there you have it!

That’s my list of the 10 most viral videos of 2014. Now as I said, this list is based a bit on opinion, so if you disagree let me know what be on your top 10.
