Social Media Promotion Of The Week: 28/06/13

Instagram made headlines last week, releasing Instagram Video, a micro-video sharing service similar to Vine. In this SMPW I have included the best branded Instagram Video of the week, or at least the best I have seen. Also included are two brand/celebrity collaborations, a reinvention of an English classic and a promotional sporting hashtag.

1. RSC
#dream40



For their 40th performance of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the players of The Royal Shakespeare Company have gone online, keeping the audience abreast of affairs with images, quotes and videos posted on a special Google+ page.

The Google+ performance, with each character posting under a special alias, was accompanied by live performances around the country, including a wedding party in Stratford-Upon-Avon, Shakespeare’s birthplace.

Fans of the bard were able to interact with their favourite characters by commenting on their posts on Google+.

2. Samsung and Usher – Looking 4 Myself




This video may be a little old, but definitely deserves a mention, having been viewed a whopping 32,000,000 times on YouTube already.

In the video, Usher battles with an evil version of himself, using a fighting style which combines his dance moves with hand actions used to control the new Samsung Smart TV.

Usher’s new song “Looking 4 Myself” is playing at the beginning of the video.

3. Pepsi Max & Dynamo – Bus Levitation 




Another collaboration between a celebrity and a brand, in this video street magician Dynamo levitates alongside a bus. The bus has a Pepsi Max advert across its side and, after landing, Dynamo nonchalantly sips on a can of the stuff.

The video has had almost 3 million views in less than five days.

4. ECB#RISE for England 




To advertise the upcoming Ashes series, the England and Wales Cricket Board are promoting a new hashtag, #RISE, on Twitter, Facebook and Google+.

The #RISE campaign has been complemented by a YouTube video and nationwide billboard advertising.

5. Lululemon#justmymat Instagram video

Dozens of brands have already created Instagram videos, but Lululemon’s was by far the pick of the bunch. Taking advantage of Instagram video’s stop-and-start editing tachniques, this clever video shows a model performing a single, smooth yoga move in a number of different locations.

The video has had over 22,000 likes.
