Social Media Promotions Of The Week: 09/05/2013

I’m not in the office tomorrow, so I’m having to publish this week’s SMPW a day earlier than usual. Don’t worry though, there have been some great social media promotions this week, evidenced by the quality of the five that I have chosen. In fact, the hardest decision I had to make was in what order I should put them in, as each one has its own unique merit. If you disagree with my order, then put what you think the order should be in the comments section below.

1. AudiThe Challenge

In order to promote the new S7 model, Audi have reunited the two Spocks – Leonard Nimoy and Zachary Quinto – for the first time since their paradoxical meeting in J. J. Abrams’ Star Trek.

After losing a game of 3D chess to Nimoy (a version made popular by the original series of Star Trek), Quinto challenges his predecessor to a vehicular race to the golf course, Quinto in his Audi, Nimoy in his Mercedes.

Considering the advert is for a new Audi, it’s not difficult to imagine who wins the race, but the Spock who comes out on top at the end of the advert is open for debate. The video has over 3.5 million views on YouTube.

2. LittlewoodsSeeItShopIt

I wrote a post about Littlewoods’ adoption of SeeItShopIt earlier this week, praising the feature for its ease-of-use and aesthetic appeal. SeeItShopIt is the first of its kind: an interactive catalogue/shop that brands can post on their page and in the news feeds of their fans.

Littlewoods became the first company to use SeeItShopIt when they posted an interactive catalogue showing Myleene Klass’ new bikini collection. Users can see items within the collection, their prices, and then click through to buy them on Littlewoods’ product pages.

SeeItShopIt is easy to use and informative, so I expect many more brands will use it in the future.

3. Pistol AnniesThe Great Annies Adventure

Over the past month, Country trio Pistol Annies have been running an online promotional campaign across a number of social media sites to raise interest in their upcoming album Annie Up.

The campaign focuses on a web comic entitled “The Great Annies Adventure”, which requires either a Facebook, Twitter or email login to view in its entirety. The comic gave readers clues as to where they could find special items and win tickets to a secret show.

Alongside the webcomic, Pistol Annies have found innovative ways to use Vine and Pinterest to advertise the album. A series of photos have been pinned on a board entitled “Girls Like Us” on the Pistol Annies Pinterest page, each one accompanied by a lyric from the new album. The band has also released a number of Vines, two of which hint at the location of a prize.

As a result of the campaign, the adventure’s website saw a 20% repeat viewership.

4. Thomson CruisesFreerunning

In this video, parkour experts 3RUN jump, flip and climb around the decks of Thomson’s two newly renovated ships. The video brilliantly showcases the features and luxuries onboard the vessels.

The video currently has almost 14,000 views on YouTube.

5. F&F Clothing7 Days Of Summer

F&F are running a Facebook competition where fans have the chance to win a £75 voucher every day this week. Each day, F&F are challenging fans to send in photos of themselves rocking an outfit tied to a specific theme – yesterday was stripes and today is floral.

F&F are posting photos of models wearing a different outfit every day to announce the theme. Each outfit is comprised of items from F&F’s new collection.
Fans can post their photos on Facebook, on Pinterest, or use the corresponding Twitter hashtag (e.g. #7DaysStripes) to send their outfits in.
The applicant who sends in the best themed photo on any given day wins the £75 voucher reward. Fans can post their photos on Facebook, on Pinterest, or use the corresponding Twitter hashtag e.g. #7DaysStripes to send their outfits in.

Hopefully, despite Tesco owned F&F Clothing’s snappily named promotional campaign, the UK will enjoy a few more days of Summer than just seven.

What order would you put this week’s promotions in?
