100% Of U.S. Senators On Twitter
Barack Obama is sworn in as the President of a truly social media-minded United States, with 100% of Senate members active on Twitter.Earlier today, 44th President of the United States Of America, Barack Obama, was sworn in for a second term of office. Throughout the day, #inaug2013 has been the top trending hashtag on Twitter, with messages of congratulations and celebration posted to @BarackObama.
On Friday, in the build up to Obama’s inauguration, the legislative branch of Twitter, @gov, announced that all 100 members of the Senate and 90% of the House of Representatives 398 members are on Twitter.
This is the 113th Congress to convene in the history of the USA. When the 112th congress convened in 2011, 44% of the Senate and 35% of the House were active on Twitter. It has taken just two years for the number of Senators on Twitter to rise 56%, showing how valuable an active Twitter presence is.
The First Lady, Michelle Obama, has also officially joined Twitter, using the name @FLOTUS (First Lady Of The United States).

Comparatively, in the United Kingdom there are currently 409 Members of Parliament active on Twitter, 63.5% of the 644 Members who have a seat, according to Tweetminister.co.uk.
