Social Media Promotions of the Week–21/12/2012

Every week, the staff here at Social Media Frontiers choose our favourite social media promotional campaigns, based on their creativity, originality and innovation. This week three campaigns stood out from the rest.

1. Google+ – Google Hangouts

Aardman Animations and Google+ have released a campaign to promote the social platform’s Hangouts feature over the holidays.

Responsible for creating the likes of Wallace and Gromit, Shaun the Sheep, Chicken Run, and more, the production company has brought all the famous characters together in a video which encourages users to connect with each other this Christmas using Google+.

The social network now holds 500 million registered accounts and this video marks the first time that Aardman has used all of their major characters combined in one creation.

The production company used the Hangouts feature during the creative process which was a first for them. The multi-person videos was used to share ideas with agencies BBH and Adam & Eve and led to greater productivity.

2. Tesco – Pull A Cracker

Tesco has launched its first Twitter campaign by asking people to pull a virtual cracker by including a #pullacracker hashtag into tweets.

With 50,000 virtual crackers available, friends who reply to tweets with the hashtag will be sent a link to show a cracker being pulled which inside will reveal their prize as well as a traditional joke.

Tesco will promote the activity (created by Wieden and Kennedy) across social media platforms such as its Twitter and Facebook accounts.

3. Fiat 500 – Motherhood

Fiat Group Automobiles UK has released their video campaign in the lead up to the launch of their new Fiat 500L next year.

Created by krow communications, the film honours the lives of mothers by following a mum around her house while rapping about the realities of her life with her young children.

The video details real stories told by mums about their living habits and their desire to keep a sense of style and modernity while leading a family life.

Rubber Republic produced the film and was seeded by Maxus. The digital account director at Maxus, Pierre Paoli said that: “Our aim is to ensure it is visible and sharable on the platforms that these dynamic mums are actively using, such as Twitter, YouTube, blogs and forums. Enjoy the Motherhood.”
