Twitter Introduces Interactive images

Twitter can now host images from Thinglink, a website where users create interactive pictures with links to other online content.

Earlier this year Cards was released, allowing users to attach photos and videos to Tweets which could be viewed without leaving Twitter.

With Thinglink, Tweeters can now create interactive images which, when clicked on and magnified, display any number of links to other websites.

The linking possibilities are endless: from one image a user could navigate to a Facebook page, a YouTube Video, a Pinterest catalogue and an album on iTunes.

Each link appears as a small circle, or can be edited to display an icon depicting the links destination. So, for example, a link to Facebook could be marked with an ‘f’, a link to Twitter with the Twitter bluebird and a link to iTunes with the triangle play symbol.

For companies, the feature means Twitter has become an even better marketing tool. An image of a new dress could be linked to a clothing label’s website, a Pinterest pinboard displaying the label’s whole new range, the label’s Facebook page and retailers with the dress in stock.

Essentially, a Twitter image could host links to an entire marketing campaign.

It is unlikely that Twitter will be inundated with Thinglink images, but highly probably that, as companies get to grips with this new feature, interactive images become a Twitter mainstay.

Do you think interactive images on Twitter is a good idea?
