10 Top Twitter Campaigns

Every business wants its brand or product trending on Twitter. Hashtag campaigns are one of the best ways to promote your business using social media. Here are 10 examples of successful and innovative campaigns on Twitter.

1. Domino’s Pizza UK #letsdolunch



Domino’s ran a nationwide campaign on March 5th promising to cut the price of their pepperoni passion by 0.01p every time someone tweeted #letsdolunch between the hours of 9am and 11am. 85,000 tweets later the price had dropped from £15.99 to £7.74. The discount was offered between 11am and 3pm.


2. TwitterScrabble

In order to promote the new Scrabble Trickster board game, Scrabble challenged contestants to write the highest scoring tweet from a randomly generated selection of 100 characters. The winner each day was awarded with a Scrabble Trickster board.

3. American Airlines AAdvantage #Deal30

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of it’s AAdvantage loyalty programme, American Airlines ran the “Tweet to Win 30k Miles” competition. Part of a larger campaign involving 30 promotions over 30 days, the Twitter contest ran on the fourth day. Contestants entered by registering on the competitions microsite, tweeting #Deal30 and following @AAdvantage in Twitter. The microsite registered over 27,000 entries.

4. Radio Shack #kindofabigdeal

Radio Shack have used Twitter for promotional campaigns on a number of occasions, but this one, to celebrate the launch of Verizon Wireless in September 2011, was especially ingenious. A number of Verizon phones were placed on a table and set to vibrate every time someone tweeted with the hashtag #kindofabigdeal. Whoever sent the last tweet before a phone fell off the table was awarded the phone.

Radio Shack got 80,000 mentions from this campaign alone.

5. American Express #AMEX[ITEM]

American Express card holders were able to sync their accounts with Twitter in order to save money of certain things. Every time a card holder saw an offer they just had to post a tweet with the hashtag #AMEX[ITEM], for example #AMEXCOFFEE, to take advantage of the discount.

6. Nike – Who Follows Who?

Nike host a 10km run in Buenos Aires every year. Last year they promoted the race by asking the question “who follows who?”, both in the real world and the virtual world of Twitter. The Twitter-specific advertising was the first of its kind to combine reality with virtual reality in such a direct way.

7. Uniqlo UK #luckycounter

Apparel retailer Uniqlo UK created a page featuring a range of 10 items. Clicking on one during September 7th triggered a prewritten tweet with the hashtag #luckycounter. The item discounts came into effect on September 9th.

8. Orange #singingtweetergrams

Orange invited people to post tweets with the hashtag #singingtweetergrams. Orange then selected the best tweets to be sung by the Rockabelles, the recordings of which were released after a few hours.

9. Ben & Jerry’s #FairTweets

American confectioner Ben & jerry’s promoted Fair Trade day and themselves by asking tweeters to sign up to a service which donated any spare characters in a tweet to Fair Trade. For example, a tweet 100 characters long would leave 40 characters to support Fair Trade day.

10. Mercedes Benz Tweet Fleet

Frustrated at the lack of parking spaces in German cities, Mercedes Benz created software for their cars that could measure and locate suitable places to park. They then sent out a fleet of new Mercedes Benz cars which found spaces and tweeted the locations to followers.
