10 ways to get the most out of Pinterest
digitalintelligencetoday.com |
The image-based social networking service used to be invite only – until now. Now that Pinterest can be used by anyone, here are a few tips to help you either set up or improve your account.
1. Use other social networks to feed Pinterest
Build traffic to your site by providing links to your account through Facebook and Twitter. Create attention by Tweeting or posting comments about it frequently. Post images on your blogs websites and other micro sites that lead back to the page when a user clicks on it.
2. Make it interesting
Don’t just post pins for products you sell, post interesting news, tips and images for the purpose of simply engaging with a user. Also “re-pin” from fans and other companies accounts. This will create more interest in your brand and attract a wider audience.
3. Be specific
Use descriptive keywords and hash tags to allow your posts to be found more easily via search. Vague titles will not be helpful.
4. Invest your time
Take your time to create pins, people are much more likely to re-pin and become interested in quality posts. You can then build relationships with others who are known for good quality pins, and they will be more likely to re-pin your posts too.
5. Keep it simple
Create minimalistic pins; do not allow images to become unclear and cluttered or no-one will want to look at them – let alone re-pin them.
6. Create a common theme
Make sure you create a common area of interest for other users to take an interest in. Also re-pin posts within this area. Followers will get to know what you usually post about and therefore visit your account more regularly - if it is a subject that interests them, they will return looking for your latest post.
7. Emotionally engage
Use images which will strike an emotional chord with users. This way you will stay in the viewer’s mind and have a higher chance of getting re-pinned.
8. Engage with males
According to AppData, 97.7% of Pinterest users are female. Most men must feel as though the site will not cater for them, so it would be a good idea to become one of the few accounts to create posts which interest males and then become more popular.
9. Add the “Pin-it” button to your toolbar
This will make life easier for you. This button will save you from having to open the site each time you come across something you would like to share.
10. Categorise your pins
This will make posts easier to find and let users know your pins are nicely organised. If everything is simply laid out, people are more likely to follow you
